A strong Community is vital in the growth and development of the Tomah area. To support our community members, TACU lends a hand wherever possible.
We are passionate in supporting the community where we live and believe in taking action and being proactive to make our communities a better place today and tomorrow. TACU reflects the values of our members, in order to ensure success in our local schools and neighborhoods. Together, we provide our community with funds and volunteers to support areas of education, financial literacy and local community-based giving.
2020
Tomah Area Credit Union (TACU) was awarded a $20,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant to assist local organizations as they seek to help people before, during and after the coronavirus pandemic. Eight local beneficiaries were selected to each receive $2,500 to support the work they do within Tomah and the surrounding areas.
The Tomah, Cutler, Camp Douglas, Town of Lincoln, Oakdale Area Fire Association and LaGrange Fire Station received a total of $15,000 to be used to help purchase Air Packs, a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, and fire simulation training equipment. All of which will help them become more effective and safer while fighting future fires.
“We will be using these funds to purchase a fire simulation training package which will be used to help our firefighters gain knowledge in difficult situations. Training is so important as our lives depend on it. We are just blown away by the generosity of TACU,” said Tim Adler, Tomah Fire Chief.
TACU also selected Brighter Tomorrows to receive $2,500 as they advocate to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault within our community. Throughout the pandemic, Brighter Tomorrows has seen an uptick in calls to their 24-hour Crisis Line, while seeing a decrease in funding. TACU’s donation will be used to provide basic needs to women, men and children in Monroe County, such as rent, food and transportation.
Family Promise of Monroe County received the remaining $2,500 as they fight homelessness and help low-income families achieve sustainable independence. Family Promise provides accommodations, food, transportation and even educational resources for professional development.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago approved funding for $20,000 COVID-19 Relief Grants for each of its member institutions in Wisconsin and Illinois. The grants are to provide financial support to those affected by the COVID-19 crisis within our community.

Tomah Area Credit Union (TACU) was recently awarded an additional $15,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant to benefit local organizations that seek to assist those who have been greatly impacted by the Coronavirus Pandemic. Three local beneficiaries were selected to each receive $5,000 to support the work they do within Monroe County.
The Tomah Community Table received $5,000 to be used to help provide free and nourishing meals every week to the Tomah community. Since March, the Tomah Community Table has felt the impacts of the pandemic as the weekly attendance has grown from 60 individuals to over 220 each week, which has increased the cost to provide the weekly meals. With continued community support, the Tomah Community Table hopes to continue to assist family’s stretch their monthly budget now and after the Coronavirus Pandemic.
“The Tomah community has been so generous in supporting the Tomah Community Table the last 11 years, and has continued that generosity since March with the Mobile Tomah Community Table,” said Laura Bishop, a founding member of the Tomah Community Table. “We are serving four-times as many individuals during the pandemic, and this grant will certainly help defray costs of our sponsoring organizations. We can’t thank TACU enough for this substantial donation.”
TACU also selected Faith in Action of Monroe County to receive $5,000 as they assist elderly and disabled residents of Monroe County by providing services that enable those individuals to remain in their home for as long and as safely as possible. TACU’s donation will be used to fund transportation, grocery delivery and other services that are designed to offer independence to Faith in Action’s Care Recipients free of charge.
Warrens Community Meal received the remaining $5,000 to alleviate some of the costs associated with providing a monthly meal to the Warrens community. Due to the impacts of the pandemic, the organization has seen an increase in the expenses associated with providing a monthly meal, but continues to serve 150 to 250 meals every month.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago’s (FHLBank Chicago) Targeted Impact Fund provides members, like TACU, with grants to support the relief efforts for populations hardest-hit by COVID-19 as well as to promote equity and opportunity to local communities. In addition to the $15,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant, TACU also received funding for a $20,000 relief grant from FHLBank Chicago earlier this summer to assist local organizations as they seek to help people before, during and after the Coronavirus Pandemic.
“Through these unprecedented times, we have seen many community organizations step up to help those within our community who have been impacted by the pandemic,” says Todd Scholz, TACU President and CEO. “We, at TACU, are just happy to recognize and support these fantastic organizations, as we are just people helping people.”
2019
TACU donated over $11,300 to community organizations, collected 390 pounds of food for the local food pantry, awarded 3 high education scholarships, gave $1,200 to local teachers and assisted over 30 community organizations achieve their fundraising goals.
